How Do I Tag Someone in a Facebook Post?
A Facebook tag attaches a person, page, or business to a post you create and sends them a direct notification. Tagging increases the overall visibility of your post, helps network within the community, and encourages the people you tag to jump in and interact with your content. Whether you are seeking feedback on a book description, celebrating a milestone, or asking a specific question, tagging ensures the right people see your message.
How to Tag Someone in the Mastermind Community
When posting inside our Facebook Mastermind Community, you can tag members, coaches, or support team members using two quick methods:
Method 1: The "@" Symbol (Recommended)
This is the fastest and most reliable way to tag someone while typing your post:
- Start typing your post in the community group.
- When you want to mention someone, type the @ symbol followed immediately by their name (e.g.,
@John Doe). - As you type, a drop-down menu of community members will appear.
- Click on the correct person’s name from the list. The text will turn blue, indicating the tag is active.
Method 2: The "Tag People" Button
If you want to tag multiple people or feature them prominently at the top of your post:
- Open the Create Post window.
- Look at the bottom options panel and click on the Tag People icon (usually depicted as a blue silhouette or luggage tag icon).
- Search for the names of the members you want to tag and select them.
- Click Done. Their names will now appear next to yours at the top of the post (e.g., "Your Name is with John Doe and 2 others").
Best Practices for Community Tagging
To get the most out of your tags and maintain an engaging, supportive environment, keep these guidelines in mind:
- Keep It Relevant: Only tag individuals who have direct context or a reason to see the post (like an instructor who gave you advice, or a peer you are collaborating with). Avoid mass-tagging members to get artificial views.
- Format Correctly: If a name doesn't turn blue after typing it, the tag didn't stick. Delete it and try typing the
@symbol again, allowing the drop-down menu to fully load before clicking. - Respect Privacy: Keep in mind that tagging someone in a private community group notification will only be visible to members within that specific group.
