How to View Book Sales and Track Promo Effectiveness on KDP

Understanding your sales data is essential for measuring the success of your marketing campaigns.

When our team sets up introductory promo sites for your book, the best way to see if they are working is to check for sales spikes during the specific dates your ads run.

Follow the steps below to view your sales reports and analyze the effectiveness of your promotions.

Step 1: Access Your Sales Dashboard

  1. Log in to your KDP Account.

  2. Click on the Reports tab in the top menu.

  3. On the left-hand sidebar (or the main dashboard view), click on Orders.

Step 2: Filter by Your Promo Dates

To see if a specific ad worked, you need to isolate the data for the dates the ad was active.

  1. Refer to your Promo Sites Spreadsheet (in your Google folder) to find the specific dates your ads ran.

  2. In the KDP Orders dashboard, look for the Date Range filter (usually at the top of the chart).

  3. Select Custom Dates and enter a 2-week window surrounding your promo dates.

    • Tip: Including a few days before and after the promo helps you clearly see the difference in activity.

Step 3: Analyze the Data

Once your graph updates, look for the following indicators:

  • Identify the Spike: Look for a noticeable increase in "Units Ordered" on the specific days your promo sites were active.

  • Check Format Types: Ensure you are viewing the correct format (eBook vs. Paperback). Most introductory promo sites focus on eBook sales.

  • Free vs. Paid: If your promo was for a "Free Days" campaign, make sure to check the Free tab or filter on the report to see the downloads.

Important Notes on Reporting Delays

  • eBooks: Sales usually appear within 24 hours of the order being placed.

  • Paperbacks: Orders only appear on your report after the book has been printed and shipped, which can take several days. If you don't see a spike immediately for print books, check back in 3–5 days.
