Four Steps To Prepare For Your Ghostwriting Onboarding Call

On this call, we’ll get to know you, hear your story ideas, clarify your vision, and align on the best plan to bring your book to life

Before the call, we want you to take a few minutes to reflect on:

  • Why you want to write this book
  • Who you want to reach (your target reader)
  • What you want readers to feel or do after reading it
  • The big message you want the book to deliver
  • If your reader remembers ONLY ONE THING from your book, what would you want it to be?

Bring Your Story Ideas (Even if they’re messy)

You don’t need to have a full outline to get started. We just need you to come with:

  • Any existing notes, drafts, voice notes, journal entries, blogs, podcasts, or videos related to  the book.
  • The key stories you want included
  • Any major life moments, lessons, or turning points that’ll serve to teach the reader a lesson
  • Topics you must cover
  • Stories/topics you don’t want included
  • Any existing notes, drafts, voice notes, journal entries, blogs, etc.

Be Sure of the Type of Book You Want

If you already know the style you want, great. If not, no pressure, we’ll clarify on the call. It’s important to clarify if your book is a:

  • Memoir or personal story
  • Business and leadership book
  • Self-help and transformational book
  • Faith-based and inspirational
  • Fiction
  • Hybrid (memoir + lessons + frameworks)

Prepare 1 or 2 Reference Books

Are there authors who you love their style and would want your book to mirror it? No, we won’t copy anyone, but you can bring titles of books that match:

  • The tone you want
  • The format you like
  • The level of storytelling you admire
  • How detailed or simple you want your book to be

Even one reference is helpful.

Be Ready to Talk About Your Voice

Because we want the book to sound like you, we’ll ask about:

  • Your communication style (is it formal or conversational?)
  • Your personality
  • Any phrases, sayings, or expressions you always use
  • Any words or tones you don’t want
